COMPOSITE TOURNAMENT TEAM STATS - Batting Report sorted by AVG
Game 1 - Astros 6 Maryland Red Dogs 3 WP Zach Badanes
Behind the grit, determination and right arm of Zach Badanes (W) the Astros win their opener 6-3 over a feisty Red Dog team. Tom Scala and Kris Kelly set the table at the top of the order with 2 singles apiece and PJ Lenz adds a 2 run double. The Astros plate 5 runs in the 3rd inning and hold on from there in a solid team effort.
Game 2 - Maryland Monarchs 8 Astros 5 (12 innings) LP Andrew Stella
In what could have very well been our most grueling game ever played the Astros lose a 12 inning heartbreaker to the Maryland Monarchs 8-5. The oppressive heat took its toll on everyone as the team played valiantly rallying from behind on 3 separate occasions but just fall short in the end. A tip of the cap to Andrew Stella (L) who does a fantastic job in his 7 innings of relief and CJ Gerdowsky who caught all 12 innings, this after catching the opening game prior. PJ Lenz blasts a 2 run HR in the 4th to put us up 2-1, Ryan Rusoff and Anthony Caruso each add RBI doubles in the 6th to tie the game and Zach Badanes an RBI single in the 11th to knot it up at 5 to extend it to the 12th inning.
Game 3 - Anne Arundel 2 Astros 1 (9 innings) LP PJ Lenz
Jared Mancini (ND) is masterful through 6 innings of work on the bump allowing 3 singles but runs out of gas in the 7th allowing a leadoff triple followed by a double as Synergy knots it at a run apiece after 7 and go on to win a 2-1 ballgame in 9 innings. The Astros don't get it done with the lumber as we are only able to muster 3 singles and a two basehit over 9 innings.
The Astros close out their weekend in Maryland on a positive note as Luke Willenbrock (W) goes the distance in a very nice effort and the bats come alive in a 5 inning 11-1 run rule victory. Mike Cunningham singles twice and doubles in his 3 plate appearances as Zach Badanes (2 RBI), Steve Varela (2 RBI) and Anthony Caruso each chip in with 2 hits apiece.
